DIYframing Courses

Adding Decorative Finishes To Frames.10/May/2009

---

This is a day spent in experimenting with different colouring agents and types of finish.  Having tested and refined these techniques on moulding samples, you will be provided with a frame to be finished in a style of your own choosing.  The frames provided will accommodate a mounted piece 410 mm x 325 mm .

There will also be a full demonstration of the steps followed in putting a leaf-metal, gilded finish onto bare wood mouldings.  The demonstration will be made by the trainer, but you will be provided with detailed, illustrated notes so that you will be able to try out the process at a later stage.  During the course of the day you will learn about:

  • How to prepare bare mouldings for finishes;
  • The range of colouring agents (dyes, paints, waxes) and other products available to framers
  • Leaf metal gilding - the materials used and the sequence of applications employed.

 You will have a chance to create a “sample” range of chevrons of your own, using any of the products available.  Finally you will be able to create a bespoke finish on a (pre-made) frame, before adding your artwork ready for assembly and hanging.
