Richard Buttle

Richard Buttle came to framing via a rekindling of his interests in photography and watercolour painting. Having time to catch up with a backlog of his own work, he decided to frame his own pieces and therefore happened upon the DIY Framing website. Up until that point Richard had spent nearly 30 years in education. Starting off as a teacher in Slough, he moved to Worcestershire in 1979, where he taught French, art and design technology. Later, after 12 years as a head teacher in Worcestershire schools, he moved on to become a schools' inspector for Warwickshire. Ill-health determined a change of direction, so that background is now being used to design and produce the training and courses organised by DIY Framing. Having had many years' experience working with both adults and youngsters, Richard is in his element using his creative talents, whilst still getting to tell people what to do (old habits die hard!). In fact, wherever the training is set up, the response is always the same – huge smiles from people who have really surprised themselves with their own talents. He has been heavily involved with running workshops at many of the exhibitions where DIY Framing has been featured, so you may have bumped in to him at one of those. Richard's latest ventures include setting up and running, from home, a bespoke framing business, which is building up a good customer base. He also aims to set up a "virtual gallery" selling his own framed photos as well as looking to show case some local, semi-professional artists. For direct contact, email richard@diyframing.com
