LINNETTE BELL, GCF:  Training Designer, Trainer & Adviser

Linnette comes from a family of artists and printers. She graduated in 1981 with a degree in Fine Art Painting. Her artwork has been shown in solo and combined exhibitions both in the UK and abroad. She can claim to have over 300 pictures in private collections around the world.

In June 2018 Linnette's book Making Frames was published by Crowood Press. Making Frames contains 350 captioned colour photographs which cover all the basics of framing with additional information about specialist artwork and conservation methods and techniques for framing fabric and 3D items. Linnette also explores her specialist area of mounts and frames with painted decorations.

After graduating, Linnette also started a 'mobile' picture gallery in which she represented about a dozen artists as well as her own work. This work involved her in the role of an art consultant for her clients and as an art promoter for artists. To make her service faster and to be able to supply specialist framing, she realised the need, early on, to take control of the framing herself. Over the years she has learnt from many sources, such as her colleagues and friends in the picture framing trade. In 2001, Linnette added a further dimension to her career by accepting a teaching post with Adult Learning.

When they discovered that she could also do picture framing, they asked if she would design a new picture framing course. However, when they saw the shopping list for just one set of equipment, they backed out, so she compromised by designing a course just for the frame decoration part (this is the source of the Gilding and Paint Effects Course) with me doing the chopping and mitering beforehand. In fact this became too much work for one person! And it did not satisfy the students as they wanted to do the work themselves. In the end Linnette went to DIYframing, met Duncan and they immediately set about planning a 'basic' picture framing course, where each student would have their own set of equipment.

The rest, as they say, is history. Linnette pioneered the Basics of Framing course and has built up, deservedly, an excellent reputation for training in framing skills. She works at the DIY Framing head quarters in High Wycombe where her courses tend to fill rather quickly! To see some of A. Linnette Bell's own work, visit her website:
