After that we are back up to Manchester in October, running the Art & Photo framing weekend on the 8th & 9th, followed by two of our more specialised workshops: Framing Sports Shirts (10th) & 3D (BOX) Framing (11th). Then at the very end of October we are in three places at once: Glasgow training, 29th & 30th, Hobbycrafts Glasgow SECC and Maidstone over the same dates.  Find out about other training modules on offer in Glasgow from our item below. Early in November you'll find us at the Art Materials Live show (NEC) with the first of our November training wekend in Gloucester.

Also in November is our Business Development Week - early booking is important to reserve a place either for the whole package or selected modules.

Training in Glasgow

For some time we have been considering providing more training opportunities in Scotland.  Therefore when the van heads up to Glasgow for the Hobbycrafts show at the SECC, it will be full of kit for our usual training weekend PLUS materials and equipment for two further days.  One of those will be the Adding Decorative Finishes to Frames (27th October).  The second day (28th October) we will be aiming to set up to suit popular demand.  If you are available and keen to take part, please let us know which of the sessions listed here you would want us to run: 3D (Box) Framing; Conservation Framing; Framing Fabrics; Stretching & Framing Canvas Based Artwork.

Please email Judy (judy@diyframing.com).

Happy Birthday - Open Day Reminder

Celebrating one year (almost to the day) of business at our Cressex store: this is a reminder about our next Open Day: Saturday, 10th September 10.00 am - 2.30 pm. If you have recently started with mountcutting and framing, check out our FREE SEMINAR. Decorative Doubles looks at how you can create layered mounts that go a long way beyond traditional doubles. Places are limited and going fast, so, to avoid disappointment, contact judy@diyframing.com to reserve a seat for the am or pm session.

There will be a 10% discount on many store prices (except items already on offer), great deals on ex demo and end of line items, and many bargain buys (selected moulding packs, mountboard). MORE >>

Rent A Workshop

For some time people have asked about (or suggested) the notion of using our training room to do their own framing.  Well we have listened and will be trialling our first session of workspace rental.  The system is simple.  You can hire a work space for an afternoon session (1.30 pm - 4.30 pm): as it is a "pilot run" we can offer it at the massively discounted price of just £10 (+ vat)!!.  This gives you access to hand-tools, consumables and hardware (as used in our Basics of Framing training).  You buy the products you need from the store (mountboard, backing board, glass, moulding etc) and then complete as many or few projects as you feel able to fit in.  A member of staff will be available to advise, find materials and maintain kit PLUS there will be access to our basic training manuals and Handy Hints sheets as reminders. The only limit is that you must have trained with us on our Basics of Framing course and be able to cut mounts, mouldings etc for yourself. MORE>>

Mitre Trimmers Are In

Mitre trimmers will be back in stock next week and are ready to order.  It's amazing how such a simple piece of kit can produce such an excellent finish to mitres.  It makes the difference between working as an amateur and creating a professional look: sharp corners no gaps.  If you have trained with us you will have seen just what they can do.  For those who are new to them, we have a Handy Hints sheet providing guidance on their use alongside mitre saws.  Worth an early Christmas treat?

Planning Sheet

We have been using a new version of our planning sheet during training sessions. It allows for planning the mount element in detail (also allows for double mounts) and provides space for planning and recording other aspects in a framing project. Whilst not the only way (or even the best) of recording what you do, people have found it useful ... and now you can download the PDF and see if it’s of any help to you. Planning Sheet
