Patchings Art, Craft & Design Festival

Patchings Art Craft & Design FestivalJune 4 to 7 2009, Open Daily from 10am to 5pm, Sunday till 4.30pm

For the 16th year Patchings is opening its doors to some of the nation’s finest and most skilled artists, craftsman and designers. Over 200 exhibitors have been selected and invited to appear at the Festival because of their talents, skill and artistry in creating individually designed work. It is a great opportunity for artists, working in all media, to meet experts in their chosen fields, see amazing works of art and become inspired to take their ideas even further.

This is the third year that DIYframing will have had a stand at Patchings. It will feature a wide product range for purchase and demonstration.  Staff will also be on hand with plenty of expert ideas and advice to inspire your own framing. Click PATCHINGS to visit the exhibition's home site.

Of course, if you do feel inspired you could also join our picture framing training course in Nottingham, 18th & 19th July. Click for details.

In the Picture: NEW service launch

launch of image transfer service

At long last, our image transfer service is ready to go. It is never easy to do justice, in writing, to a new venture especially one as good as this. But we’ll try. The aim is to extend the idea of framing your own artwork starting from the image production as well as planning and building the frame.

To help make sense of it all there are several pages of information on our website, accessible from the new IMAGING  icon on the home page. As well as detail about the processes and background to the service, there are links to resources, kit and materials used when framing canvas based artwork.

Sunflower Framing

Sunflower Framing - where DIYframing startedEven expert cooks eat out from time to time. The same thing can be true with your picture framing. No matter how well we train people, no matter how much information we provide on our site, there are still some pieces of picture framing that might just be beyond you at a particular point in time. Or, you might just need the convenience of sorting a project out when you simply haven’t got the time to do it yourself.

There is no shame in looking for another solution. As you know, the whole concept of DIYframing came from our experience in setting up a picture framing business. Sunflower Gallery is where it all started. Have a look at our sister web site and the exhibitions coming up. You never know, there might be something they can sort for you.

Last Call for Master Classes

DavidWilkie.jpg

Have you ever wondered how people get a different colour mount edge other than white or black? Did you always want to find out how to work with fillets and slips in mounts or frames? Are you curious about how to inset colour stripes in mounts? These are just a few of the ideas explored in our master classes with David Wilkie.

For anybody wanting really to get to grips with the very highest level of bespoke picture framing, then the two days spent with David will exceed those expectations. You will need to book as soon as possible: only a few places remaining.

Picture This

Blondie1.jpg

We have had so much interest in Yvonne Milsome’s framed, Blondie picture disc, that it features as our next library project. The principles are broadly the same as those used in the original. We have, however, also tried to outline some alternative approaches at various points - just in case you might need to work in a slightly different way. You will need to be a DIYframing member to access the framing projects page.

June 2009

This is the first of the Summer Newsletters:  check out where we will be visiting this year.  With more training sessions and exhibitions around the country, you could take a long break - do some art, photography and framing in the sun.

As promised, we can now reveal our new image transfer service ... but it offers more than just online prints.  Browse the information pages to discover the quality of a first class bespoke print service and related products.  For those of you without direct access to large format printing, this gives you an amazing resource: giclée printing to your specification.  Rather than leave it there, we back it up with the trade mark support, information and products so you can take things as far as you choose.
