Hot Tip of The Month

“A very informative article about The Knot. This must be what Alex called, in his usual delicate way, the "Sheepsh*****s' Underloop"! Instead of taping round the loose ends of cord, we use 3.5mm heat-shrink tubing. This is neater, quicker to do, and more secure. See attached photo.”

Hot Tip from David Edwardson

Many thanks to David Edwardson for his “Tip of the Month” If you want to use this method rather than taping, David followed up with details of the product he uses.

“Heat-shrink sleeving is normally used for insulating wires and can be found at electrical suppliers, though we get ours from Maplin – (click: sleeving) It's available in many sizes but we find that 3.5mm diameter works well for the type of hanging cord we use.”

Quality Devon Framer - New Case Study

Bystock.jpg

Janet Rudkin is a rising star in the DIYframing world. Starting out in 2008, she has gone from her Basics of Framing course, with us in Exeter, to setting up her own business: Bystock Framing. Not content with that, she has found time to research her new found craft thoroughly, invest in kit and further training, as well as being a winner in the DIYframing “Summer Holiday” picture framing competition (READ MORE). That has really whetted her appetite to see how far she can develop her skills and is already working on an entry for the Fine Art Trade Guild competition. Her website and blog are also worth taking a very good look at and will certainly fire any would-be bespoke framer with ideas of their own.

“The first picture framing order is always a bit daunting: my first one was quite scary as it was totally out of the blue! My husband was buying some shotgun shells in a local gun shop. He overheard the owner talking about some framing he needed doing. In stepped my husband with my business card in hand and it went from there. Looking back, I’m not sure I was totally happy with the frames I produced at the beginning, but perhaps that’s a natural reaction. I have learned so much, and improved immeasurably since those ‘early’ days, so I suppose it’s quite easy to be self-critical.”

February 2010

A busy time ahead for all, I'm sure: it certainly is for us.  This is a news letter that is full of actual news.  It's not every day that a major company (Logan Graphic Products Ltd) announces 3 major, completely new items of kit and a series of upgrades to existing tools and packages. DIYframing is one of a very few, UK based companies to have access to this range of innovation. We will be the first to offer demonstrations of them all at a major, international trade show (Focus on Imaging).  Now, that is great news - for us and for you.  But you will need to read on to see exactly what this kit is.

Also, later on in February, watch out in your in-box for a Focus Special newsletter.  It will contain, in one place, the details of all the offers and special information we will be posting on the Focus On Imaging 2010 news pages.
